AIM -  Relinking after moving or losing connection to AIM's data files

By default AIM is installed to C:\AIM, with the user data files being installed in a subdirectory underneath this directory C:\AIM\Data.

Users may wish to move both AIM and its data files for various reasons, especially if they wish to network the programme.

AIM has a user-friendly relinking program that will automatically detect if either of AIM's data file or dictionary file has been moved and assist the user in rethinking to their data.

You will find an example of a typical AIM network environment on the following support page.

It is recommended that the dictionary data file remains local to AIM's front-end graphical user interface. Networking the dictionary file may cause the program to slow when a spell checking operations is requested.

When loading AIM automatically reconnects to its data, where this data has been moved or connection has been lost AIM will display a warning notice explaining what will happen next.

AIM Re-linking to Data Files

Next AIM opens the user friendly reconnection utility, in the example below it can be seen that neither the data file or the dictionary file can be located.  AIM also indicates the location of where it last successfully found these files.

Selecting the AIM_be.accdb with you mouse will enable access to the locate button

Users are now able to navigate to the location of the AIM_be.accdb on the their PC or network

If the file is successfully relinked the table will now indicate FOUND - Yes

The relinking routine will now check the connection again and as there is still one file to relink again warn the user accordingly.  Using the same method as explained above users should select the dictionary file for relinking.

Once both data sources have been relinked successfully users can close the relinking utility and carrying on using the programme.
