ISO 9001:2008 is in fact one part of a series of three publications, namely;
- ISO 9000:2000 (2005) Quality Management Systems - Fundamentals and vocabulary
Establishes
a starting point for understanding the three standards and covers the basics of what
quality management systems are and also contains the core language of the ISO 9000
series of standards. As a guidance document it is not used for certification purposes,
but it is an important reference document to understanding the terms and vocabulary
related to quality management systems. In 2005 the publication was revised and ISO
9000:2005 published, so it is now be referred to as ISO 9000:2005
- ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems - Requirements (previously 9001:2000)
Sets
the standard to meet both customer and regulatory requirements that an organization
needs to fulfill if it is to achieve customer satisfaction through consistent products
and services and thus meet customer expectations. It includes a requirement for
the continual improvement of the Quality Management System.
- Note : This is the only member of the series to which 3rd party accreditation and
certification can be achieved.
