Quality Policy: intentions and direction of an organization related to quality as formally expressed by top management.

5.2.1 Establishing the quality policy

 

A quality policy is a high-level corporate framework document, it does not contain targets but sets out the vision, values, integrity, beliefs, ethics, and standards etc, for an organization to which objectives will be determined and established.

 

Customer needs > Quality Policy > Quality Objectives > Outputs > Results > Customer satisfaction

 

The qualifications for a quality policy are not too onerous, indeed clause 5.2.1 only specifies four requirements a) to d) which mandate that top management shall establish, implement and maintain a quality policy that:

 

a) first thing about the quality policy is it needs to appropriate to the purpose and context of the organization as well as supporting the strategic direction of the organization.

 

b) accommodate the framework for which setting the quality objectives can be determined and established.

 

c) give a commitment to validate requirements as applicable.

 

d) promote continuous improvement to the QMS management system

 

5.2.2 Communicating the quality policy

 

Once top management have established their quality policy it will be time to communicate its content to personnel throughout the organization.

 

Clause 5.2.2 Communicating the quality policy has but three requirements which mandate the quality policy shall:

 

a) be maintain an available as documented information.

 

b) be communicated, understood and available throughout the organization.

 

c) be available to relevant interested parties.
